Working in front of a computer.
I find it funny, how you don't see a certain kind of complaint for a while and then all of a sudden, the next few people through the door are all presenting the same complaint. Off late, it's been people who work in front of a computer that have all been exhibiting similar problems. 1. A tight piriformis contributing in part to sciatic type pain down the leg. 2. A tight tensor fascia lata down outside of the leg affected and the pelvis tilted to one side. 3. Often, the 12th rib is locked and there is a tight psoas. 4. A tight neck and shoulders and both the trapezius and SCM muscles very tight. 5. A tight first rib on the side that's affected ( usually it's the arm that is using the mouse all the time ). 6. A tight occiput (base of head which sits on top of the cervical vertebrae) and temporals (cranial bones on either side of the occiput) with some TMJ (temporal mandibular joint) involvement.

visceral involvement in back pain.
It never ceases to surprise me how much correction can be achieved to back problems by the freeing off of restricted viscera. Take mid-pain for example, often the problem can be greatly helped by freeing off the restricted organ in question. It can often be a restriction to the gall-bladder, stomach, liver and/or diaphragm that is pulling the vertebrae out of alignment. Sometimes, with someone with a history of chest infections/respiratory problems, you often find that adhesion's form in the pleura around the lungs and that the upper dorsal vertebrae and the ribs are restricted. Often, freeing off the pleura first can make the freeing off of the ribcage and vertebrae much easier to achieve.

An interesting couple of cases I've seen in the last week or so have both involved appendectomies. The array of symptoms exhibited in both cases were very interesting and educational. The fixing of the cecum during and after an appendectomy can often affect iliocecal valve function and can also sometimes pull the right ovary into rotation, this in itself can cause a whole host of problems, as was the case with one of the people that came to see me last week. Also, because the cecum becomes fixed, it loses alot of it's motilty and mobility, this has a negative affect on digestion and can also affect the kidney and the psoas muscle on the right hand side as they are both in close contact with the ascending colon on that side.
The lumbars are almost always involved in this situation, with L1,L2 and L4 becoming restricted. Because of this, the patient often complains of lumbago and right hip pain. This then has a further restrictive affect on some of the cervicals, so the person often experiences a sore neck and headaches starting from the mid-cervicals which then travels up and around to the frontal and temple regions of the head.
A few more common complaints in this situation are; right shoulder pain and pain near the inside of the shoulder blade at the back, pain around McBurnleys point (which is situated approx half way along an oblique line going from the belly button to the top of the right hip), cramp like pain in the calf muscles, tinnitus in the right ear, sensitve cheekbones and tender points can be found at the tips of ribs 11 and 12 at the front.

Lower back pain
It never ceases to surprise me how effective Amastu is in treating lower back pain. A lot of people come in complaining of various degrees of lower back pain. Often the person has been experiencing pain at the junction between L5( the lowest lumber vertebrae ) and S1 ( the top of the sacrum ), other times, there is accompanying sciatic pain shooting down one of the legs. However, relief from this pain is easily achieved by treatment with Amatsu. Freeing of the Psoas muscle which is often tighter on one side, releasing the 12th rib, freeing of a tight piriformis and seperating the sacrum from L5 go along way to rebalancing the pelvis and alleviating any pain and discomfort.

The Ileocecal valve and diet.
The ileocecal valve ( ICV ) is a muscular sphincter in the digestive system which seperates the small and large intestine. The ICV controls the flow of food from the small intestine to the large intestine. The small intestine is where most of the nutrients are absorbed from the food, whereas the large intestine is where the waste is processed before evacuation.
The main functions of the ICV are to:
1. Make sure that waste doesn't stay too long in the small intestine.
2.To prevent back-flow from the large intestine to the small intestine, this stops bacteria-laden waste from comtaminating the small intestine.
The ICV functions primarily under the control of the nervous system and the vagus nerve. It is generally accepted that it is open by sympathetic and closed by parasympathetic action.Because of various contributing factors, the ICV can sometimes malfunction. As this happens, toxic waste is able to re-enter the small intestine where it is absorbed, causing the spread of toxins throughout the body and thus stressing the liver and the immune system, which then has to work hard to eliminate the toxins and their effects. Toxins that cannot be eliminated are stored in the body in the joints, which can cause an arthritic type of pain and discomfort. Toxins can also build up in the skin causing various conditions such as, acne, ezcema and psoriasis.
The main causes if ICV malfunction are:
Caffeine
Caffeine based pain killers
refined sugars and sweeteners
Chocolate
Tobacco
Alcohol
Antibiotics
Stress
Lack of sleep
Poor posture
Lack of exercise
Not enough water
Pathogenic bacteria
Viruses
Candida

Symptoms of a closed or open ICV:
Palpitations
Headaches
Migraines
Pseudo-Menieres syndrome
Right shoulder pain
Nausea
Faintness
Fluid retention
Tinnitus
Pseudo sinus infection
Sudden thirst
Dark circles under the eyes
Fatique
Right leg weakness
General aches and pains

Fortunately, very good results in correcting ICV dysfunction can be achieved by using Amatsu and adopting a healthy, sensible diet that minimises the toxic burden placed on the body.
